HANDBOOK SC

SECURITY COUNCIL 2018 COMITTEE.

“Peace is not made at the council table or by treaties, but in the hearts of men.”

  – Herbert Hoover (31st President of the United States from 1929 to 1933 during the Great Depression)

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to UNINTERMUN 2018, and especially to the Security Council.

The Security Council is one of the six main organs established under the UN Charter, and has primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. The Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or acts of aggression, and it calls upon the parties in dispute to settle it through peaceful means.

As the Security Council deals with topics regarding global peace and the resolution of conflict situations in a security ambiance, the topics listed in the handbook are taken from the official United Nations Security Council meetings, as are the resolutions (Link 1  Link 2 Link 3 Link handbook4 Link 5 Link 6)  used as references. These are topics that have reached international security concerns; however, as a reminder, the Security Council operates under an open agenda and any delegate can propose an ulterior topic to attend under the jurisdiction of the Council and be voted upon.

As delegates, you should always remember that you represent a whole nation and its interests. Just like Hoover said, the Council itself won´t resolve the issues that concern the international community, in your hands is laid the responsibility to live up to that.

The Security Council Committee will be present for all your doubts. We hope you enjoy your participation in representing the peacemaking policies of your nation of choice to end conflict situations.

Sincerely,

The Security Council Committee.

President: Luis Alberto Peña González.

Moderator: Abigail Hernández Cuéllar.

Conference Officer: Alejandra Johanna Ávilez Campos.
